Dennis Rosen
Born and raised on the west side of Chicago IL, Denny moved to the north side, graduated from Sullivan High School, and then attended the University of Illinois. Denny began working at Camp Ojibwa in 1959. After graduating from Illinois with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Denny was awarded a graduate assistantship at Northwestern University where he completed his Master’s work and began teaching at Grayslake High School. He taught PE and coached football and wrestling at Grayslake from 1964-1967. In 1967, Denny began teaching and coaching at Ridgewood High School where he became a nationally recognized educator and received many awards for his innovative style of teaching. Teacher, Coach, and Dean of Students are all titles that Denny has held.
Married in 1964 to Sandra, daughter Rachael was born in 1967 and son David was born in 1969. Rachael is married to Joel Losoff and together they are Co-Directors of Camp. David is married to Karen Siegel and together they have four sons; Zachary, Jacob, Eli, and Asher. Denny has been Director of Camp since 1985. His intense manner and love of camp, but most importantly his devotion to his campers, have helped make Camp Ojibwa the special place that it is today. 2009 marks Denny’s 50th summer on staff.
Sandra Rosen
Also born and raised in Chicago IL, Sandy graduated from Von Steuben High School prior to attending the University of Illinois. Proud daughter, mother, grandmother, and wife, Sandy is more than just Camp Mom; she makes Camp Ojibwa a special place with her grace and dignity. Since 1964, Sandy has worked at Camp Ojibwa and became the Director with Denny in 1985. Her love of nature, genuine warmth and commitment to making Camp Ojibwa the best place possible are some of the reasons why Camp Ojibwa has an international reputation of excellence. 2009 marks Sandy’s 45th summer at Camp Ojibwa.
Rachael Losoff
Born in Chicago, raised in Highland Park, Rachael has spent many of her summers at Camp Ojibwa. After graduating from Highland Park High School, Rachael attended the University of Michigan graduating in 1989 with high honors while receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. After Michigan, Rachael received a a Master’s degree in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Physiology and began working at Highland Park Hospital. Loved by her patients, Rachael quickly became a respected member of the hospital staff where she also teaches CPR, Infant CPR, and other classes. Married to Joel in 1992, Rachael is the proud mother of Ari and Noah. Her love of camp adds another dimension to Camp Ojibwa.
Joel Losoff
A 1983 graduate of Maine East High School, Joel attended the University of Iowa receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Hospital Administration. Joel began working at Camp Ojibwa in the summer of 1987. After graduating from Iowa, Joel received a Master’s in Hospital Administration from Rush in 1989 and worked in the field until he had a career change and became the Director of Athletics at the Bernard Weinger JCC while attending National College of Education in order to earn another Master’s degree- this time in Education. Joel teaches at the Westcott School in Northbrook. Being a full-time teacher, Co-Director of Camp Ojibwa, father, husband, son, and friend keeps Joel on the go. Camp Ojibwa is very fortunate to have Joel as its Co-Director.
Dr. George Sachs
Dr. George Sachs is the full-summer, in residence, Medical Director responsible for working with visiting doctors and our health aide assistants in providing Camp Ojibwa with the finest on-site medical care. Born in Chicago in 1944, Dr. Sachs moved to Hammond, IN at the age of three. After finishing his schooling in Hammond, he attended Northwestern University as an undergraduate and then completed his medical degree at Northwestern Medical School. After completing his residency at the University of Southern California in Otolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery, Dr. Sachs served as a Major in the Army stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri from 1974 to 1976. Following his military service, Dr. Sachs went into private practice in North San Diego County specializing in his major field with a sub-specialty in Allergy. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngologic Allergy. Having been at Ojibwa since 1953, Dr. Sachs has been or served in every facet of Camp.
Married in 1967 to Karen, our Director of Sailing, they have two sons- Andrew and Todd. Both boys were campers and staff at Ojibwa.
Grandson Jonah is already enrolled for Cabin 1 in summer 2010.
